Itinerary

Day 1 - Fly to Watamu

Today you will fly to Malindi Airport where you will be met and transferred to Hemingways Watamu, your home for the next few nights. Approximate drive time is 30 minutes.

Hemingways Watamu has been welcoming guests to pristine Watamu for over 30 years. Located inside the Watamu Marine Park, the resort has spectacular snorkeling and diving right on its doorstep and outside the Marine Park is some of the best Big Game fishing in the world.

The 39 bedrooms at Hemingways are clean and stylish with blue and white as the dominant theme. Air conditioned with en-suite bathrooms and large comfortable beds, every room has its own veranda or balcony overlooking the Indian Ocean. The restaurant and other public spaces continue the theme and are large and airy. The swimming pools seem to spill over into the sea and the bar is the perfect place to relax in the afternoon and watch the fishermen weigh the catch of the day.

Day 2 - Watamu Turtle Watch

Visit the Watamu Turtle Watch, Local Ocean Conservation Center for an eye-opening experience with green turtle hatchlings.

The endangered green turtles are the largest species of hard-shelled turtles and second largest of all turtles. The females of this wonderous species will always return to the same beach that they hatched to lay their eggs. This is what makes Watamu Beach such a special place – every year between March and May hundreds of green turtles make their way up onto the powder white sand to lay their eggs. Each female will lay up to 100 eggs in a clutch and will lay between three to seven clutches in a season, then just two months later the hatchlings will appear – between May and July. Most hatchlings will choose to make their break for the sea early in the morning or under the cover of darkness; this is perhaps one of the most special things to witness on the Kenyan coast.
