COVID-19 Protocols & Entry Requirements

International Travel Status

Open – Ecuador has reopened its borders to international travel on June 1st, 2020.

*Passengers arriving from the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, and South Africa will have to take a rapid antigen test upon arrival, in addition to their 10-day PCR negative test. And non-residents will have to comply with a preventive 5-day isolation. This information is subject to change, as flights to/from the above destinations or connections may be cancelled.

Access into Ecuador

Entry into the country is allowed by air travel into both international airports, Quito (UIO) and Guayaquil (GYE).

Entry Requirements

  • Ecuador is no longer requesting compulsory quarantines.
  • A negative-PCR test taken no more than 10 days prior to arrival in mainland Ecuador must be shown to the immigration authorities.
  • A negative-PCR test taken no more than 96 hours prior to arrival in the Galapagos Islands must be shown to the National Park authorities (compulsory only for travelers under 18 years old). 
  • Ecuador does not have curfews in place. However, cars must adhere to mobility restrictions, depending on the last digit of their license plates (this does not apply for tourism vehicles).
  • Hotels are operating normally.
  • Most establishments, including restaurants, are operating at 50% of their capacities.
  • Wearing facemasks in public places and on board vehicles is mandatory.
  • Screenings are performed when entering most places. This includes temperature checks, hand sanitizing and keeping a 2-meter (6 feet) physical distance.

COVID-19 Testing

PCR testing is offered in Quito and Guayaquil, on the following schedules and conditions:

Quito
If the sample is taken between 08:00 and 10:00. The results will be delivered on the same day, after 16:00. On the other hand, if the samples are taken between 10:01- 16:00, the results will be delivered in 24 hours. The price per PCR sample is USD 90.

Schedules are:
Mondays to Fridays: 08:00 - 16:00
Saturdays: 08:00 - noon
Sundays: 08:00 - noon

Remember:

  • Rate applies if the test is taken at the laboratory.
  • Additional charges apply if:

- The test is taken at the local hotel
- If the test is taken out of business hours
- If the test is taken somewhere out of Quito (haciendas or lodges)

Guayaquil
The price per PCR sample is USD 115, and it will be taken and delivered as follows:

  • If the test is taken on the Monday to Friday, from 08:00 - 14:00 schedule, the results will be delivered on the same day, after 18:00.
  • If the test is taken on Saturday, from 08:00 - noon schedule, the results will be delivered on the same day, after 18:00.
  • If the test is taken on Sunday, from 08:00 - noon schedule, the results will be delivered the next Monday, after18:00.

Remember:

  • Rate applies if the test is taken at the laboratory.
  • Additional charges apply if the test is taken at the local hotel.
