Day 7 - Cape Winelands

After breakfast, you will transfer to Babylonstoren Farm Hotel located in the Cape Winelands.

Babylonstoren is a historic Cape Dutch farm that boasts one of the best preserved farmyards in the Cape. Beloved for its garden that is laid out over 3.5 magnificent hectares (8 acres), the structure divides into 15 sections that include fruit, berries, bees for pollinating, indigenous plants, fragrant lawns, a prickly pear maze, a clivia tunnel and a plethora of trees of historical and botanical import. The farm hotel is characterized by thick whitewashed walls, elegant gables and hearty fireplaces, emulating an authentic farm stay experience.

The farm hotel features three different restaurants. Housed in the old cow shed, Babel Restaurant is a wonderful mix of Cape Dutch architecture and contemporary glass walls that makes for a simple yet edgy environment in which to try our tasty yet often unconventional combinations. They have a farm-to-fork philosophy which means they like to serve food that is seasonal and reflects a “pick, clean and serve” approach.

At the rear of the garden, tucked away between the oak trees, the greenhouse offers guests a wonderful refreshment station after their walk through the garden. All the food is served picnic-style in wooden crates with the preserves, jams and salads served in weck jars with fresh bread from the wood-fired oven.

By day, the bakery supplies the farm shop and restaurants with freshly baked breads but by night, this space is transformed into a true celebration of La Dolce Vita! Dinners in the bakery are served family style – guests dish up for themselves from wooden boards placed on their table while sipping on wine and enjoying the lively atmosphere.

The rest of your day is at leisure to explore the farm and enjoy the activities on offer.

Day 8 - Cape Winelands

The day is at leisure to explore the farm and enjoy the activities on offer.

Getting your hands dirty
The days are intentionally unscripted at Babylonstoren, and for hotel guests, there’s much to do. In addition to exploring the 200 hectares of farm, hotel guests are invited to join in the harvesting, pruning, planting or picking of the many fruits, herbs, nuts, spices and vegetables grown there. The farm welcomes guests interested in learning more about gardening. If you’re happy to get your hands dirty, you will be planting, harvesting, pruning and mulching. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with the gardeners and positively contribute.

Walk, Run or Cycle
A map in your room suggests six trails for walking or running. These vary in length, the shortest being a mere 5-minute walk. A backpack with water, sun lotion and a small first-aid kit is available and you are then free to go out and enjoy the abundance of fresh air and country views! The hotel also has bicycles available for adults and children with a map of suggested routes.

Spa
Like everything else at Babylonstoren, the Garden Spa is linked to the garden and set within a forest of bamboo with tranquil greenery and a myriad leiwater channels to set the tone. Housed in a pavilion constructed of bamboo, it comprises a hammam, chill room, hot spa and gym. The Garden Spa has a garden-inspired food menu to replenish, revive and delight you.
