Kilimanjaro International Airport is set to get a new look as part of its efforts to meet the demands of the increased tourist flows in Northern Tanzania. Changes due to take place at the 40 year old airport include a modest expansion, as well as overhauling and resurfacing of the runway, taxiways and aprons. A new taxiway will be built to increase the capacity of the airport and the terminal building will be upgraded and expanded to accommodate the growing flow of tourists into Northern Tanzania. The facelift, the first since the airport was inaugurated in 1971, is financed by the Dutch government at an estimated cost of U$36 million. The work is expected to be complete in 2014.
