No 8 Orphanage in Moscow
Founded in 1989, The No 8 Orphanage in Moscow is a boarding school for orphans and children without parental care. The orphanage works to encourage independence from its students, preparing them for the transition into everyday life, whilst also promoting the importance of family values through positive relationships with teachers and fellow students. Akorn are working to ensure the successful progression of students leaving the orphanage at the age of 17. A series of lectures and field trips educating students about the tourist industry and potential career opportunities will be provided by Akorn staff to help guide and inspire students and provide the encouragement and support they need to plan their futures. Donations are also being made to fund a new bus for the school to enable class excursions. Trips of this kind give the children the opportunity to experience their culture and heritage and encourage them to take pride in their city.
