DAY 2

Vienna – Schönbrunn and Dancing Lesson - 29th December

On today’s excursion your own private driver and guide is waiting to take you outside of the city centre to the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace with its beautiful grounds. The vast summer residence of the Habsburgs, Schönbrunn Palace takes its name from a delightful spring found on the estate. The spectacular setting and symmetry of the palace and the gardens are a prime example of Baroque planning. Join your guide as he leads you on a fascinating tour of many of the palace’s staterooms including the Hall of Mirrors in which Mozart performed for the Empress Maria Theresa when he was just six years of age.

This afternoon embrace the opportunity to immerse yourself in Vienna’s world-renowned musical culture with a lesson in one of its most sought-after ‘export goods’: the Viennese Waltz. Waltz king Johann Strauss triumphantly carried this dance across the globe and now you have the special chance to master the dance in three quarter time yourself with a private lesson in an exclusive baroque ballroom. Complete your lesson with a traditional Viennese ‘pause’ with coffee or sparkling wine and cake and receive a certificate authenticating your dance efforts.

Continue to nearby Heiligenkreuz to see the magnificent Cistercian abbey. On the return trip to Vienna stop by at the Seegrotte, a former mine and now a fascinating underground lake.
