Hay Festival Comes to Budapest
Organisers of the Hay Festival have decided to expand the literary gathering to suitable destinations around the globe, beginning with the cultural gem of Budapest, the Hungarian capital.
Hay Festival Budapest will take place over the weekend of May 4-6. Among those participating will be Jung Chang (of Wild Swans fame), the Nigerian poet and novelist Ben Okri, the novelist, playwright and screenwriter Hanif Kureishi and Tibor Fischer, the British-born writer of Hungarian parentage whose widely-acclaimed novel Under the Frog was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and what's more, Sir Bob Geldof will be doing the honours at the opening-night concert. Celebrating 200 years of Beer Gardens in Munich and Upper Bavaria
The first Bavarian beer gardens date back to 1812, a time without electric cooling systems. Brewers used to plant linden and chestnut trees above the cellars where the beer was
stored and cover the ground with a thick layer of gravel, the storage rooms then remained cool and the beer therefore stayed fresh. Local residents then enjoyed the shade of
the trees together with the cold beer, drinking it on the spot, even though the beer was supposed to have been taken home.
King Ludwig I. granted the brewers formal permission to sell their beer for consumption outdoors by the brewery. The concept of an outdoor beer garden begun, where you could both eat and drink outdoors. In 2012, breweries and beer gardens throughout Munich and Upper Bavaria are celebrating this anniversary with festivities and events. Please contact us for more information.

The Nice Festival
Nice’s greatest event of the winter is the carnival from
mid-February to early March 2012. The build-up to the carnival
starts on the evening of February 17th and continues - on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays - to March 4th. The 2012 theme is Roi du Sport (King of Sport), not least in recognition of the Olympic Games due in London later in the year.
