Starbucks has announced the opening of its 41st branch in Peru, located in the historic centre of Cusco. The new outlet, currently the third store in southern Peru, can accommodate up to 86 people, and will employ approximately 40 people staff from the region. Local flavours have been incorporated such as the Algarrobina Frappuccino, and Starbucks are showing social committment to the community of Villa Rica, thereby fulfilling the their self-proclaimed corporate social responsibility guidelines.
The 13th annual Great River Amazon Raft Race event will take place next October 6th, contestants will set out on homemade balsa rafts from the beaches of Nauta, and paddle their way back to Iquitos over three days--covering some 180k along the way. Almost every year, the overall event is won by teams from nearby, either "Los Increibles" or "Los Invencibles". They dominated the annual race until 2008 when the first international winners, David Kelly and his USA team "Easy Living", won in record time by finishing in 12 hours, 19 minutes, a record that still stands. So far, the 2011 line-up includes 34 teams from eight countries participating, with colorful and humorous team names such as "Team Macho Man,"Electric Amazon Lovefest," "The Crazy Cuys," "River City Donkey Show," to name a few.

Over the last couple of days some local communities in Puno have been protesting against the potential future activities of some mining companies which have unfortunately affected operations in the Titicaca area.
Although the Government is working hard to solve the issue, operations have become a little more difficult over the last couple of hours. Given the situation Akorn Peru has taken to the decision to adjust itineraries visiting the Titicaca and Puno area over the coming few days so that they are not inconvenienced in any way. Our Operations department will be in touch with all those who have clients in the area to give more specific details.

TACA, one of South Americas leading Airlines has announced that they will be increasing frequencies for domestic flights within Peru including a substantial increase in weekly flights to Cusco from 13 to 21. Elsewhere the airline has announced the launch of routes from Lima to Juliaca (the access point to Lake Titicaca), Tarapoto in the Peruvian Amazon and Trujillo in the north of the country.

From Jan 1st until Feb 28th both trains will run from/to Ollantaytambo station. This will be particularly helpful for times when landslides sometimes occur during the rainy season, causing inconveniences especially at Pomatales canyon.

Their new home will be the Casa Concha in the city of Cusco. We are very excited about the new LAN routes. From June 2011 Air France has re-commenced operations to Lima with 5 weekly services on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Upon its discovery in 1987, the site of The Lord of Sipan was heralded as the King Tut of South America for the elaborate jewelry within the tomb including pieces made of gold, silver and semi-precious stones. Those travelling to northern Peru will now have the opportunity not only to see the Lord of Sipan’s tomb but also the ongoing excavations which recently uncovered an entire family buried close by which are believed to date back over 1800 years predating the Lord of Sipan by 120 years.
