DETAILS

FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
Today, leave the port for a visit to the Huaca del Dragon, a pre-Inca temple boasting beautifully restored wall carvings.

Afterwards, continue on to the ruins of Chan Chan, capital of the mighty Chimu Empire. This vast complex, considered by many to be the largest adobe (mud) city in the world, covers an area of 20 square kilometers or 7.7 square miles. It is estimated that the population of this mighty city may have reached 700,000 at its peak. Marvel at this incredible relic of pre-Hispanic civilization which is brought alive by your guide today.

Finally, make your way to the beach at Huanchaco, home to Trujillo’s famous caballitos de tortora (“little reed horses”), small fishing boats still used by the local population today. They are reminiscent of the reed boats used by the Uros people native to the Lake Titicaca region on Peru’s border with Bolivia.
