Duration: 1 day
Full day excursion to Tsavo East National Park with two game drives.
Highlights: Tsavo East National Park
FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION
Depart early today and begin the approximate 100 kilometre (62 mile) drive inland to enter the Tsavo East National Park through the Bachuma gate. Tsavo’s lions are noted for their ferocity. J.H. Patterson’s book “The man-eaters of Tsavo” describes how they obstructed the building of the Railway in the 1900s by the simple expedient of eating the linesmen! Nowadays, they seem to prefer the eland, kongoni, impala, zebra, kudu, reedbuck and warthog that inhabit this 11,000 square mile park.
Your safari in this park includes a visit to the Aruba dam, a popular man-made watering hole for game and one of the best places to view and photograph the park’s resident game, particularly Tsavo’s famous herds of red elephant, so named for the colour of the soil. Lunch is at the Voi Safari Lodge, an ingenious lodge set on a lookout hill above the plains and overlooking a small watering hole.
After lunch, you will be taken on another game viewing drive before exiting the park and returning down to Mombasa and the pier.
