Jordanian hospitality along the Ajloun trail

In the midst of the forested mountains of Ajloun in the north of Jordan, near to the Ajloun tourism trail, tourists can experience local culture at its best with a touch of warm authentic Jordanian hospitality. Um Ahmad, a mother of three, has set up a small bed and breakfast in her home, to welcome guests to the area and earn an income for her family.

Um Ahmad’s husband wanted to turn his home into a guesthouse where his family could host visitors and get to meet people from around the world. He also wanted to make a living out of this project and be able to secure his children's education.

Sadly, her husband passed away suddenly in 2010. However Um Ahmad continued to prepare for receiving guests by furnishing the rooms in her house rooms with beds and cupboards, along with adding a television, fridge and kitchen table to the common area. Um Ahmad was then ready to start receiving tourists last year, providing them with meals and accommodation through a grant support from USAID/Siyaha.

Evason Ma’In Hot Springs & Six Senses Spa has recently won the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2011. This certificate is awarded to hotels and resorts who are members of the TripAdvisor network that consistently receive excellent ratings from their customers. To qualify, the hotel is expected to maintain an average rating of 4 or higher out of the possible 5, as reviewed by travellers on TripAdvisor. Additional criteria includes the volume of reviews and how recent these reviews are submitted by TripAdvisor users

Jordan listed as one of Lonely Planet’s Top 10 travel destinations for 2012

Hundreds of ideas have been collated from everyone at Lonely Planet, including the extended family of travellers, bloggers and tweeters to work out the very best of what the world can offer. The result was a list of the top 10 countries for 2012 – in ranked order – as voted for by a panel of in-house travel experts, based on topicality, excitement, value and that special X-factor.

An experience for the grandiose - Wadi Rum from the skies

Never before has anyone been able to appreciate the wonder that is Wadi rum is such breath-taking clarity. The sight of the natural rock formation and dunes of the desert seen from a Hot Air Balloon is an out-of-this world experience. Wake up with the sun to experience optimal flying conditions in the gentle morning breeze and brisk air. As the desert expands before you, your eyes will open to the tremendous power of the Earth’s quiet magnitude.

Balloon flights typically take place during the early morning hours and last for approximately one hour, but guests should allow 2 hours for the whole experience (excluding transport to and from site). Children of 6 years and older can also participate in this experience…

The dress code for this trip is casual. Expect to wear khakis, jeans or shorts and a light jacket in the summer or a warm one in winter as temperatures drop dramatically as the balloon rises. Also you can bring a sun hat or cap, and don’t forget that flat shoes are recommended.
