For a full-day backwater cruise, enjoy this excursion to Alappuzha, known as the "Venice of the East." Located approximately an hour and forty five minutes from the pier, Alappuzha, previously called Alleppey, is nestled amid a thick tangle of lush tropical vegetation and dense palm groves. Your cruise offers a glimpse of life along the shoreline of the backwaters, the extensive network of rivers, lakes, canals and lagoons connecting the coast with the area's interior. For centuries, these canals provided a safe and efficient means for transporting goods and people, helping to establish the region as a center for trade.
Today, the canals provide a means for your pleasant cruise, taking you through majestic forests and past churches, mosques and temples that hide amid the trees. At the water's edge, villagers bathe and launder their clothes, and sometimes wash their buffalos. Soon, you will arrive at your resort, where you will savor lunch and some leisure time.
